Fragrant Lilac Tree (lonchocarpus violaceus)

Sweetly-fragrant, pea-like lavender blooms resembling lilacs blossom from 6 to 10 inch upright bunches in the late spring. A very attractive tree with lacy leaves and strikingly colored flowers, in the landscaping it can be grown as a specimen, accent or shade tree or trimmed to be a shrub in the smaller urban garden. Leaves are evergreen, pinnate, smooth, dark green above, paler beneath and grow on slightly drooping branches forming a shady dense crown.
